While social distancing has temporarily closed countless businesses and halted hiring in nearly every industry and area of the country, there are actually some employers ramping up their recruiting in response to the COVID-19 crisis. We took a look at our job market data to see which companies currently have the most job openings and which are seeing the greatest hiring growth.
As predicted, the companies doing the most hiring were consumer staples retail. Health care and transportation also featured prominently among employers with the most job openings in March.
Taco Bell had the most job listings at the end of March by a substantial margin, with more than 50,000 open positions. 7-Eleven was the employer with the biggest job growth in March, with listings up 138% since March 1st.
For several companies in the top 20, these upward trends in hiring show no sign of slowing in the immediate future. Both Dollar Tree and 7-Eleven recently announced plans to hire 25,000 and 20,000 respectively. Other essential retail companies are adding benefits and increasing wages to show gratitude for the hard working employees who have been willing to stand on the front line during this crisis. Walgreens will be giving bonuses up to $300 per employee and Aldi announced plans to raise pay 10 percent, backdated to March 9th.
We will continue to monitor our job listing data for hiring trends as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold.
