Dollar Tree to Prune 1,000 Stores After Year of Hiring Decline
LinkUp called out 10% YoY drop in job listings at the budget chain a day ahead of a bleak earnings report that hammered $DLTR stock.
Discount retailer Dollar Tree announced a surprise 4th quarter loss yesterday as the chain grapples with store theft, merger indigestion, and the austerity spending of their lower-income clientele—the consumers pinched hardest by inflation.
Leadership reported a multi-year plan to close 1,000 storefronts of its Family Dollar brand, a subsidiary chain Dollar Tree acquired in a 2015 bidding war with Dollar General. The news saw $DLTR stock drop more than 14% by Wednesday afternoon.
A day ahead of Wednesday's earnings report, LinkUp’s Solutions Manager Nic G. tweeted a Compass graph showing a 10% YoY decline in job listings at Dollar Tree. Insights like these are a strong use case for LinkUp’s data products—real time hiring intel gives analysts an advance picture of company growth or decline with a lead on official reports. By harnessing the forward-looking nature of job listings, our data helps users anticipate industry shifts, identify opportunities, and prepare for disruptions.
